More about Liz
As you may know I was the first nationally certified Lead Teacher in SA way back in 2014 and renewed in 2019. This year (2024) I successfully renewed at the 10-year mark and was one of the very last people to complete the renewal process as we now have the streamlined maintenance process. I have predominantly taught in country and regional schools with a stint at Aberfoyle Park back when it was a brand new school. This year I spend some time teacher alternative learning classes at Salisbury East High School. As a country person myself I value providing high quality learning opportunities for students and colleagues who are not in a metro setting. I trained as a PE teacher and am passionate about sport. Since my initial teacher training I’ve added many strings to my teaching bow including: English, Australian Studies, HASS, Society and Culture, Research Project (which is now finished), Community Studies, as well as literacy and reading. I’ve even taught science. I mark, moderate and supervise for the SACE Board for Research Project and Community Studies and I have been the Lead Practitioner for Society and Culture.
My big news for 2025 is that I have been accepted into a Master of Education (research) at the University of Adelaide and I can’t wait to start in March.
Most of all I am passionate about education and providing young people with opportunities to develop knowledge, skills and their identities. I don’t give up on people but try to find what works for them. I use this approach in my current work as Team Facilitator in National Teacher Certification for the Department.
I’m keen to keep building the HALT momentum in SA and to showcase our collegiality to other jurisdictions. One thing I have discovered more recently is, as I have become a better teacher I’ve also become a better person. I meet people where they are, not where I am. I suspend judgment until evidence has been collected! Even then I am known for seeing the good in everyone.
Outside of education I love my dog Calvin, and my 2 children who are lawyers. I enjoy wining and dining, travelling, reading and arts and crafts. I still have the occasional hit of tennis but mostly have a love all water sports and swim most of the summer.
