More about Andrea

My name is Andrea Sherwood and I am the Director of Learning at Westminster School.  Born in Kent UK, I came to live permanently in Australia in 2008 with my Aussie husband and 2 children.  My career in education started in 1993 as a French and German teacher in Nottingham. In the large comprehensive school where I was lucky enough to work, I found my passion for working within a community where young people and adults learn together. I was lucky enough to be mentored and inspired by wonderful colleagues and leaders for 16 years before migrating. Now an Australian citizen myself, I know I totally lucked out when I won a position at Westminster School - this has been my new learning community since 2010. At Westminster I facilitate a AIF class and sometimes teach German, as well as leading a team of amazing Curriculum Leaders who shape the student learning experience at our school. I have been an accredited HALT assessor since 2015 and have completed several HALT assessments, including onsite visits of Highly Accomplished and Lead teachers, where it is always a privilege to witness great teachers on their home turf.  At last year’s SA HALT Network Conference, it was an inspirational experience to meet so many accomplished educators and aspirational adult learners who have impacted on student learning outcomes, engagement levels and wellbeing.  I believe that HALT teachers have a critical role to play in the future of schools, acting as change agents who help to shape distinctive experiences within their schools to ensure they remain relevant and future focussed.  I feel privileged to be part of the SA HALT Network committee and I look forward to getting to know everyone better as we journey together within this community.
